That's pretty tricky! In the event that he got canonmates, we'd say it would depend on the individual significance of the names. For instance, if Character A's nickname based on their wavy hair was important to them on the level of a name or alias, it'd be forgotten, but if Character B's based on their long eyelashes wasn't, then it could be retained.
