( HOW TO SEND )
Format your subject line as follows:
Character Name | Canon | Reserved/Not Reserved
Copy/paste your app into the body of the email.

Send your app to forestcovered.mods@gmail.com.

( PLAYER INFORMATION )

Name: What is your handle/name?
Contact: Email, AIM, Plurk
Are you over 17?: Due to the potential nature of this game, we're leery of accepting applications from anyone younger. Sorry!
Characters in Forest Covered: Do you currently play any other characters here?

( CHARACTER INFORMATION )

Name/Work Name:
Canon:
Canon Point:
AU/CRAU: Y/N? Which?
Age:
History: A link to a wiki will suffice, but if the information provided doesn't appear detailed enough, we would appreciate an expanded history that contains enough detail that would help us understand what they have been through. OCs and AU characters will be graded to a harsher standard than characters fresh from a published series -- your application is all we have of your canon, so please make it count!
Personality: We would like a minimum of three paragraphs describing your understanding of your character’s personality; basic things that make them tick, things that motivate them, things that are core to them. You can write as much as necessary to convey what you know of this character and how it portrays them. Please treat us like we are canon-blind (unless we definitely are, in which case--) and be as thorough as you can be.
Debt: What is it that brought them to work under the witch? What are they trying to accomplish? Please note that characters arrive of their own accord; they signed up for this. They might have been tricked, but they don’t know it’s a trick just yet! If you're having trouble coming up with a debt, some general ideas include:

1. A wish for something they can't get themselves. The Witch can provide many things (or at least, says she can) outside of a normal person's reach. Whether it's 'I want a beach house in Hawaii' or 'I want to save the world from a Colossal Evil' depends on what your character would want enough to work for.

2. Working off debt for past sins. The Witch is fond of implying that the crimes (real or imagined) a character has committed need to be worked off before they're forgiven.

3. Revival from the dead, if your character is dead at their canon point.

4. Helping someone else pay their debt (who may or may not actually be here, since the Witch gets names mixed up so easily).

Previous Game Info: If you're applying from a CRAU, here's your time to shine. Tell us about the game that they were in, their experiences there, and their development, along with their major CR.

Inventory: What did they have on them at the time that they signed their contract? All items, clothing included, are confiscated following the finalization of the contract and replaced with a standard-issue work uniform. However, with enough effort (and maybe some sweet talking), they can regain them!

Abilities: Skills, fighting techniques, all of the above in what makes their character special and unique; if they are a regular human, go into their normal skill set! Are they fast at typing? Do they have a photogenic memory? Give us what you’ve got!

Strengths and Weaknesses: Does your character even lift? Can they lift mountains, or just the dumbbells at the gym? Are they mentally strong and good at tactical games? Are they super mega ultra powerful with only one single weakness physically and yet are really dumb? Tell us all about it here! Up to five listed each would be preferred, but if you can make good valid points out of three strengths and three weaknesses, it would be acceptable.

( SAMPLE )

Characterization Sample: In either prose or bracket text, we would like at least one sample that contains 300 words minimum to convey and display your characters introspection and voice. Reusing samples from other applications is perfectly fine, so long as they meet the minimum requirement!

You may also link us a thread that is at most one year old, and we would like to see at least ten comments from your character; please note that it should be a thread that contains enough of a conversation that we could get an idea of character voice and how they are portrayed in your personality section.

Rules

RULES

The standards we expect you to uphold during your stay in [community profile] forestcovered.
Summary: Don't be an asshole.

One | Be courteous.

IC ≠ OOC! However intense things might get, please respect both your mods and fellow players. We're all adults here, hopefully — if you do, however, run into a problem with a mod or player that may not be resolved peaceably, please don't hesitate to inform one of your other mods! We want to foster an environment where all our players may feel comfortable.

Two | Be literate.

Allowances will naturally be made for ESL players, but we would ask that everyone make an effort to proof-read their tags.

Three | Be IC.

Maintain behavior and personality as displayed in your application as best as you can! Character development happens, of course, but should never be unreasonable. Don't have Superman and Lex Luthor straight from canon making out two posts in, is what we're saying.

Four | God-moding and Info-Moding

Especially as a game that allows CRAUs, we ask that all players be careful that their characters are not informed beyond pre-existing knowledge of others' lives, intentions, etc. Just be respectful with it. In general, respect other players and keep your characters' abilities within check. Unless cleared with the player themselves, do not make decisions for their character on their behalf! As wonderful as it can be to come out on top in a conflict, your winning every fight or argument without reason can become tiring for other players. Please use discretion.

Just like. Don't god-mod or info-mod, ok.

Five | Age Requirement & TOS Adherence

All players must be at least seventeen years of age and act in compliance with Dreamwidth's Terms of Service.

Six | Sexually Explicit and/or Violent Material

Anything over a PG-13 rating, sexually or violently, must be either contained to a locked entry on the main community or moved off-community altogether, a la a fade to black. Potentially uncomfortable subjects in posts must be placed beneath a cut and marked with a warning in the post description. If these subjects come up during a thread, mark the comments appropriately with your subject line.

Seven | Character Limit

Players may have a maximum of 5 characters in the game at one time.

Eight | Tag your posts!

Posts made by or tagged by your character, in [community profile] forestcovered and [community profile] deadtrees, should be tagged ([au if au] character name (canon)) for organizational purposes.

Nine | Be active!

Activity is collected on a monthly basis over a week, at the end of the month: 20 comments from the month, over at least two threads. We won't differentiate between 20 comments on the bulletin board and 20 comments talking face-to-face, and as many threads as necessary may be used.

A character is not required to submit comments for AC their first month in game, but should comment to the post to check in.

Jobs

JOBS

Upon arrival, everyone is given a set of work clothes which may vary in colour but the styles shown here are the default uniforms. Note that gender doesn't matter; everyone gets the same clothing. These uniforms are only worn by employees and though depending on species and body shape the Witch may have to have them tailored, they will still distinguish employees from everyone else on the island.

Of course, depending on the job one chooses, additional uniforms will be provided. These can vary and we'll leave that up to you to decide on something appropriate for the job. A more Western area would have a more Western style of uniform, things like that. Have fun choosing!

But how does a character find and choose a job? Luckily there are job postings all over the employee quarters and there are always, always openings for any job at all. If there is a niche, it needs to be filled and the sky is the limit. If it can help or entertain customers, the Witch would give it her full stamp of approval.

The below list is not a complete list by any means! It's only meant to give some basic ideas. If you have any questions on a job idea and if it requires or comes with anything different, please feel free to ask us!

Cleaning Staff - Self-explanatory. Cleaning staff, as expected, comprises a fair deal of the island’s workforce! Cleaners are responsible for:
- Laundry
- Cleaning of living spaces and kitchens, et al
- Ensuring supplies are in stock

Cooking Staff - Found in restaurants around the island, in addition to the bathhouse itself. Responsibilities include:
- Chefs
- Waiters/Waitresses
- Dishroom
- Food prep

Bouncers/Guards
- Found wandering the city and around the entrances to bars and similar establishments, it’s a bouncer or guard’s job to:
- Capture any wandering outsiders
- Deal with unruly patrons
- Patrol the city and keep peace
- Due to the nature of their job, they are encouraged to wear masks so spirits cannot seek revenge on them.
- Guards and related duties are allowed to keep their weapon or a weapon

Farm Workers
- Grow and tend to crops
- Deliver them to the different restaurants and bathhouse

Animal Handlers

- Clean pens
- Feed animals
- For special animals like horses, give them exercise and so on
- Occasionally take care of guests' pets (this sometimes includes humans)

Butchers
- Just what it says.

Gardeners
- Keep the town and island looking beautiful
- Tend to all gardens and trees
- Grow the flowers
- Also in charge of arranging bouquets. A person who works a gardening job may find themselves in charge of a florist’s shop at one point!
